This publication grew out of The Marathon Fiscal Record, an April 2026 analysis of how Marathon Central School District reached Moderate Fiscal Stress. The same rules apply here.
Standards
- Public records first. Every figure cites a document anyone can read, linked at the foot of the article.
- Interpretation is labeled. Where an article draws a conclusion, it says so, and it says what the conclusion rests on.
- Corrections in public. Errors are fixed, noted on the article, and listed on the corrections page.
- Each article shows when its figures were last checked against their sources.
Letters, not comments
There is no comment section. Residents can write a letter, which is held for at least three days, read by a person, and published with the writer's name in a weekly batch. The delay is deliberate.
The Exchange
The Exchange links to what other local outlets are publishing about Marathon, including outlets that see things differently. It shows headlines and short excerpts only, and links to the original.
Independence
This is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by Marathon Central School District, its Board of Education, the Village of Marathon, or the Town of Marathon.
